Rainfall warning issued for Coquihalla, up to 50 mm expected

The heavy rainfall is expected to persist along the Coquihalla tonight.

Environment Canada has issued a warning for the road between Hope and Merritt.

The department’s bulletin warns of up to 50 millimetres of rain.

That could mean reduced visibility, water pooling on the roads, flooding and swollen rivers.

“A strong fall storm continues to bring heavy rain to the south coast tonight,” the warning reads. “Rainfall intensities have been particularly heavy early this evening for the eastern Fraser Valley.

“Expect heavy rain to continue into later this evening. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”

Hwy 1 between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass also remains under a rainfall warning.

Much of the province is being soaked by rain today as citizens head to polls.
