Freezing rain warning issued for Kelowna and Penticton

Freezing rain is expected in the Central and South Okanagan tonight, Environment Canada has warned.

The agency issued a weather alert for the two regions – including Kelowna and Penticton – this morning.

“A low pressure system will move into the southern interior tonight,” Environment Canada explained.

“Warm air aloft will accompany the system and freezing rain is expected to develop over the southern interior, particularly over higher elevations and highway passes.”

Hwy 3A, Hwy 33 and the Princeton-Summerland Road are expected to be particularly affected.

Power outages are possible, along with slippery and icy roads.

Motorists are advised to check the DriveBC website before travelling.
