97-year-old Okanagan weather record broken on Saturday

If you were looking to spend the day somewhere hot on Saturday, the Okanagan Valley was the place to be as a handful of temperature records were broken.

The oldest record to be broken was in Penticton as the South Okanagan community reached a high of 38.1℃, surpassing the previous benchmark of 36.1℃ set in 1927.

South of Penticton, Osoyoos set a new record with a high of 39.4℃, passing the 1988 record of 38.8℃.

Other Okanagan communities to set new benchmarks include Summerland and Vernon.

Residents in Summerland experienced a high of 36.6℃ on Saturday, 0.3℃ warmer than the same day in 1999.

Vernon was a little warmer than Summerland as the municipality set a daily temperature record of 37.4℃.

The one other temperature record to be broken on Saturday was in the Lillooet area, as the region felt a high of 39.5℃.
