KWIC Swimmers impress at Mel Zajac JR. International

Kelowna-West Integrated Swim Club, the Okanagan High-Performance swim team, sent 11 swimmers to the 55th Annual Mel Zajac International meet this past weekend. The team placed 39th out of 77 teams and swam to 20 best times.

Axana Merckx made six finals placing 13th in 400 IM, 50 Back, 14th in 200 IM, 23rd in 100 BACK, 24th in 200 back, and 29th in 100 Free, breaking a club record in the 100 free in the 15-17 and Open Girls category, swimming a 59.51.

Erin Epp made three finals placing 11th in 50 Breast, 19th in 100 Breast and 30th in 400 IM.

Molly Hill made it to two finals placing 20th in 200 Fly and 22nd in 400 IM, also swimming to a new Canadian Senior National time.

Georgia Pengilly found herself in two finals as well, placing 27th, in 100 Back, also swimming to a new Canadian Junior National time, and placed 30th in 50 Back.

The “A” Medley Relay team consisting of Axana Merckx (back), Erin Epp (breast), Molly Hill (fly) and Georgia Pengilly (free) placed an impressive 10th place, while the “A” Free Relay made up of Georgia Pengilly, Erin Epp, Rachel McInnes and Axana Merckx place 22nd.

Other strong swims were had by Emily Epp, Paige Foster, Matthew MacDonald, Cameron McInnes, Taylor Smith and Ella Rolleston.
