Kaedan Korczak called up to Golden Knights taxi squad

Kaedan Korczak has earned his first professional call up.

The Vegas Golden Knights recalled the Kelowna Rockets defenseman to their taxi squad on Wednesday.

After helping Team Canada to a silver medal at the 2021 World Junior Championships, Korczak was assigned to the Henderson Silver Knights, which is the Golden Knights’ AHL farm team.

He appeared in one pre-season game before getting the call up.

“It’s been a dream of mine to play in the NHL, and this is obviously the first step to that,” Korczak said in his media availability yesterday.

Vegas would now have to recall the 20-year-old from the taxi squad if the team wanted him to suit up in his first NHL game.

In a regular year, Korczak would be too young to play in the AHL and would have stayed in Kelowna to play a fourth full season with the Rockets.

However, given the fact that the WHL and Government of BC have yet to confirm a return to play in BC, exceptions have been made for prospects as they await more news.

If the Rockets season does get underway in March, as is the hope right now, Korczak would be eligible to return to junior.

Korczak posted 11 goals and 38 assists in 60 games for the Rockets last season.
