UPDATE: Pair of wildfires near Revelstoke now under control, being held

(UPDATE: July 17 @ 12:45 pm) – A wildfire that sparked near Revelstoke on Monday has been classed as “being held.”

The BC Wildfire Service says the Wap Creek wildfire is expected “to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary” under the current conditions.

The lightning-caused wildfire grew to 4.2 hectares and is located about 20 kilometres south west of Revelstoke.

Two initial attack crews and three helicopters were responding to the fire.

Another wildfire burning west of the Wap Creek fire started Tuesday afternoon but was quickly brought under control.

It was located near Mount Griffin, BCWS says.

It grew to less than one hectare.


(Original story: July 16 @ 11:36 am) – A wild fire discovered near Revelstoke on Monday has grown to about 4.2 kilometres, the BC Wildfire Service says.

The Wap Creek fire is currently burning out of control about 20 kilometres southwest of Revelstoke, the BCWS says.

According to the latest update provide Tuesday morning, it is believed that lightning caused this fire.

“Fire behaviour is currently Rank 2. This means the fire is currently a surface fire, with visible open flame, and a slow rate of spread,” the BCWS says.

There are two initial attack crews, a wildfire officer and contract crew responding to the fire.

Three helicopters are supporting ground crews.

No evacuations or alerts have been issued.
