A West Kelowna acupuncturist and traditional Chinese medicine practitioner has been banned from treating female patients due to complaints of misconduct.
According to a public notice from the College of Complementary Health Professionals, interim limits and conditions have been placed on Dong Lin’s registration as an investigation is carried out.
Besides not being allowed to treat women, Lin is also required to post a statement online and in any treatment room he practices that says so.
He must also provide the College with information to his calendar, including name and contact information for each patient he treated in the preceding week.
He will also be subject to random audits by a College-appointed inspector.
The Feb. 20 order was made following a complaint from a female registrant.
“In relation to this complaint, the Inquiry Committee panel found that there was a prima facie case of the allegations that, during the provision of treatment to the patient, the Registrant conducted himself in a manner that demonstrated a lack of professional judgement and respect for patient boundaries,” the order said.
According to the order, the inquiry committee considered the allegations serious and found there were factors that “render the alleged conduct likely to recur.”
No specific details about the misconduct have been made public.
The order did note that the allegations remain unproven and a discipline hearing could happen.
