Environment Canada warns of heavy snow on Hwy 3

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3 through the western Kootenays.

The warning says between 15 and 20 cm of snow is expected between the Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass.

“A strong Pacific low pressure system is expected to bring heavy snow for Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass,” says Environment Canada.

“The snow is going to start this morning, intensify through today, and tapers off in the late afternoon to early evening.”

Anyone travelling this route is reminded that rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult.

People are also reminded that weather in the mountains can change suddenly so extra caution is advised.

Be sure to check Environment Canada for the latest on the forecast and DriveBC for the latest on road conditions before travelling.
