Search efforts underway after mudslide washes away a BC home

One homeowner is unaccounted for and several residents are sheltering in place after a mudslide washed away a home in Coquitlam on Saturday.

The mudslide occurred just after noon along Quarry Road and upon attendance, police observed “a large amount of fast-moving water and debris across the road.”

“Due to the mudslide, Quarry Road is unpassable which has affected several residents on the other side of the slide.”

“First responders are in contact with the residents and confirmed that are able to shelter in place, but there is no updated timeline as to when the road will be cleared.”

RCMP added that Coquitlam Search and Rescue and Coquitlam Fire and Rescue have assumed the conduct of the search.

No more information will be provided while police contact the family of the unaccounted homeowner.
