The West Kelowna Warriors are crawling up the BCHL standings with the help of their recent weekend split while on the road in Alberta.
The Warriors began their weekend slate with a Friday night battle against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
Coming off a 5-3 loss against the Crusaders nearly a week before, the Warriors got their revenge and defeated the Crusaders 5-3.
Down 2-0 halfway through the first period on Friday, Ian Alonso cut the lead in half with his sixth goal of the season.
The Warriors carried their momentum into the second period and added a pair of scores to take a 3-2 lead into the third frame.
Sherwood Park evened the score a little more than a minute into the third period, but the Warriors continued to press and regained the lead at the 12-minute mark.
Sam LeDrew scored his 18th goal of the season in the final seconds of the game to snag the 5-3 win.
The Warriors then made their way east to face the Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday.
West Kelowna struggled to capitalize on seven power play opportunities against Spruce Grove and fell 5-3.
The Saints opened the scoring and began a back-and-forth affair that saw the Warriors tie the game twice in the first period.
Spruce Grove retook the lead with a shorthanded goal in the second period, the only goal of the middle frame.
The Warriors then answered the Saints and tied the game eight minutes into the third period.
With the game tied 3-3 and in the last four minutes of the match, Matheson Mason put the Saints ahead.
Spruce Grove added an empty net goal to take the win.
The Warriors are back in action against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the Vernon Vipers this upcoming weekend.
