Rockets thumped by visiting Giants

The Kelowna Rockets threw everything at the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night but were unable to score in the 7-0 loss.

"I think the start honestly we had some good looks, we had some offensive zone time," said Rockets head coach Kris Mallette.

"But it's about getting into those areas where you're going to compete. It's hard to score goals and if we think it's just going to happen on the outside, then we're sorely mistaken.”

Adam Titlbach started the scoring for Vancouver in the opening minutes of the first period and added another goal before the end of the frame.

The Giants then tallied three goals in the second period, ending Rhett Stoesser’s night in the net after allowing five goals.

With Jake Pilon in net for the final period, the Rockets gave up two more goals and Kelowna’s netminders combined to make 24 saves.

Keeping the Rockets off the scoresheet by stopping all 44 shots he faced in the net was Burke Hood.

The Rockets will not have to wait long to enact their revenge against the Giants as they visit their Vancouver foes next Saturday.

But before that, the Rockets will be at home to host the Prince George Cougars next Friday.
