Section of McCulloch Road to be closed for watermain work

A portion of McCulloch Road will be closed for about a month as the City of Kelowna works to install three new watermains.

Starting on Monday, the road will be closed between KLO Road and Reekie Road for the watermain installations until mid-August, as part of the Kelowna Integrated Water Project (KIWP).

Phase one of the KIWP, rang in at $86 million, is expected to be complete by 2021 and will "bring clean drinking water to more than 2,000 Southeast Kelowna households and a sustainable water supply to South Mission agriculture."

“Watermain installation in this section of McCulloch will provide a critical link to the northern part of Southeast Kelowna, as part of this phase of the Kelowna Integrated Water Project,” said Patrick Aylard, Project Manager with the City.

“We appreciate the continuing patience and cooperation of area residents, businesses and visitors while work is underway.”

A detour will be provided along East Kelowna, Reid, Pooley and Rose Roads, as illustrated above, and access to Hart Road will be available via Pooley Road.

While two transit stops on McCulloch Road will be temporarily relocated, residents and businesses located within the work zone will retain access to their properties.

People riding bikes are encouraged to avoid active construction areas, due to uneven road surfaces; and while the City says they will do their best to minimize disruptions, motorists will experience traffic delays when travelling along these routes.
