Rutland fire deemed suspicious after damaging a duplex

After damaging cedar hedges and a duplex, a Friday evening fire in Rutland is under investigation.

Around 4:25 pm, the Kelowna Fire Department received multiple calls about a cedar hedge fire close to a structure at 799 Houghton Rd.

When crews first arrived at the scene, they reported visible flames from the hedge extending into the second floor and attic space of a duplex.

One resident was treated for smoke inhalation by the BC Ambulance Service and no other injuries were reported.

The fire is deemed suspicious and the cause of it is under investigation by the RCMP and KFD.
