A new gas bar could be going in on Hollywood Road, if city council approves the development permit next week.
Kelowna City Council will be asked to consider issuing a development permit for a Canco gas station at 546 Hollywood Rd. S.
The property is currently home to five commercial units including the Hollywood Market, Salsa and Sabor and a dog grooming business called Barkleys Muttland.
A staff report says the proposed gas bar would include two gasoline fuel pumps and two electric vehicle charging stations.
Staff say the proposal falls in line with the Official Community Plan’s guidelines for commercial properties including distributing landscaping throughout the site, building screen parking from the street and locating loading, utilities and garbage collection areas away from public views.
“On-site landscaping surrounding the gas bar includes additional planting and trees along the Hollywood Road South frontage resulting in better tree canopy and enhanced streetscape interaction,” the report says, adding that there will eventually be 13 trees onsite.
“The site contains several mature coniferous trees that will be retained during construction.”
Additionally, the site is serviced by two entrances onto Hollywood, which will allow fuel trucks to safely access and exit this site.
This new gas station, if approved, would join two other Cancos in this area of Rutland.
City council will review this proposal on Monday at 1:30 pm.
