New downtown Kelowna vet giving free care and bathing for homeless community’s pets today

Kelowna’s newest veterinary clinic is looking to make its mark on the community today.

City Centre Veterinary Clinic (CCVC) and Kelowna’s Gospel Mission (KGM) are teaming up to offer free veterinary care and bathing for pets in Kelowna’s homeless community this afternoon.

From 1-3 pm, CCVC vets and groomers will be set up outside the Bay Avenue Shelter downtown to offer these services to people experiencing homelessness in Kelowna.

Along with free health checks and bathing services, they will also be providing pet food, other products and essential care packages to those who need them.

“Pets are often a lifeline for people experiencing hardship and the KGM is dedicated to ensuring that these beloved animals receive the care they need,” said a KGM release.

No appointment will be necessary for unhoused residents to get their pets checked out and bathed on Saturday, and the service is open to all pets of those currently without stable housing.

KGM executive director Carmen Rempel says the event is about supporting pets that bring so much love and joy to people in “difficult circumstances.”

“We recognize that pets are family, and we are committed to ensuring they are healthy and well-cared for,” she explained. “This is one way we can help alleviate the burden on their owners and offer a sense of hope and dignity.”

The KGM says this initiative, which is part of its broader commitment to improving the well-being of people experiencing homelessness in Kelowna, is made possible thanks to the generous support of the CCVC team.
