Swimmer receives Guinness World Record for Okanagan Lake swim

If swimming the entire length of Okanagan Lake isn’t reason enough to win a Guinness World Record, we don’t know what is!

Adam Ellenstein, a resident of the U.S., has officially won a Guinness World Record for his swim across the lake on at the end of July.

It took the swimmer 40 hours, 57 minutes and 11 seconds to swim the 106.6 kilometres. He was wearing a wetsuit and neoprene cap during the swim and had two rowers pass him food and water when he needed it.

The swim took place between July 25-26 and Ellenstein is the first person to continuously swim from Vernon to Penticton.

Ellenstein partnered with the Davis Phinney Foundation to attempt the record, which he undertook in honour of his Aunt Susan. Susan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the fall of 2015.
