Police still trying to solve mystery behind fatal hit-and-run on BC highway in 2003

It’s been more than 21 years since Susan Davidson was killed and police are still desperately searching for answers.

The 37-year-old woman from 100 Mile House was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run on Hwy 97 in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2003.

Today, the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) brought her case back into the spotlight, hoping that new information could help them solve the case after more than two decades.

“Hwy 97 has always been a busy major traffic corridor,” said Cpl. Melissa Jongema. “There is someone out there who knows what happened to Susan Davidson on April 19, 2003.”

Investigators have determined that Davidson left a residence in the 94-mile area around 3:15 am.

She was found by a truck driver at 3:42 am in the right lane of the southbound portion of Hwy 97, just south of the junction with Hwy 24 around 10 kilometres south of 100 Mile House.

Davidson had been fatally struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled, investigators say, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the BCHP, the area where Davidson was found was a rural, lightly-developed spot at the time and there were no street lights.

At the time of her death, Davidson was wearing a dark-brown oilskin ankle-length coat, similar to an Australian Outback coat.

The BCHP is urging anyone with information on this case to contact them at 250-395-2456 and quote file 2003-1225.

That includes anyone who saw Davidson walking that night, anyone with information about the hit-and-run or even anyone who may have hit something on Hwy 97 around that time that they thought was an animal.
