1. New capital gains tax comes into force
A contentious new tax regime for capital gains is now in force. The Liberals have justified the levy by claiming it makes Canadian society fairer, but businesses and professionals, including some doctors, have argued it will do more harm than good.

Tens of thousands of vehicles in Canada could be affected after Ford issued a recall on some of its F-150 pickup trucks. A fault has been detected in the popular truck's transmission.
3. Another teen girl pleads guilty in swarming death of homeless man
A fourth teenage girl has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the killing of a homeless man in 2022. Kenneth Lee, 59, was swarmed by the girls in Toronto before being stabbed to death.
4. Snap of sleeping cuckoo bees wins insect photo contest
A startling image showing sleeping cuckoo bees has won this year's Royal Entomological Society photography competition. Other pictures to win plaudits include one showing caddis-fly larvae and one of a wasp in mid-flight.
5. Orthodox Jews must serve in military, Israeli court rules
Orthodox Jewish students must be drafted into the Israeli military, the country's Supreme Court has ruled in a landmark case. Religious students have long been exempt from service in the Israeli military, prompting fury and resentment among many secular Jews.
