(UPDATE: June 23 @ 8:50 am) - Two days after a woman’s body was found in Waterfront Park, police have yet to confirm a cause of death.
In a news release sent out Sunday morning, the RCMP shared that the deceased female was 28 years old.
“No other details about her identity can be provided at this time,” stated Sergeant Judith Bertrand, adding that the investigation is still unfolding.
“There is nothing at this time to suggest an increased risk to public safety.”
Anyone with information surrounding the incident is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
(UPDATE: June 21 @ 10:10 am) - A brief Kelowna RCMP media availability didn't offer up much additional information on the discovery of a body in Waterfront Park this morning.
Police said the woman was found dead on the shore of Okanagan Lake in the popular downtown park around 7 am.
"The Kelowna RCMP and the BC Coroner Service are working together to identify the female and to determine the cause of death," said Sgt. Laura Pollock.
The RCMP said no further information would be released at this time, as it is an active investigation, but updates will be provided when available.
(Original story: June 21 @ 9:15 am) - A heightened police presence at Waterfront Park is due to the discovery of a body.
The Kelowna RCMP said the person who was found dead is a woman, but has released no other information at this time.
A tent has been set up around the discovery in the hillside area between the public washrooms and Island Stage.
Police will be providing an update closer to 10 am and KelownaNow will update this story as information becomes available.
