(UPDATE: Sept. 12 @ 1:20 pm) – The Kelowna RCMP have confirmed that a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Highway 97 and Burtch Road Thursday afternoon.
The collision happened around 12:30 pm.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital, but police have not released details about their condition.
A news release says the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
According to the release, the RCMP’s reconstructionist and traffic services are still investigating.
The eastbound lane continues to be down to one lane and the RCMP are asking people to avoid the area if possible.
“It is not known when the other lane of eastbound traffic will be reopened,” the release said.
(Original story: Sept. 12 @ 12:45 pm) – A police incident is impacting traffic on Highway 97 through Kelowna Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, three police vehicles and one ambulance could be seen at the intersection of Burtch Road and Highway 97.
A short while later, a firetruck arrived on scene to block the left turn lane off the highway.
Traffic is moving slowly just west of the Landmark district.
One eastbound lane is closed while emergency crews respond to the incident.
A KelownaNow reader claimed a pedestrian was struck, however, that has yet to be determined.
