Health Canada issues warning about 'very flammable' rubber cement

Health Canada has issued a warning about a popular brand of rubber cement after testing showed it was “very flammable.”

The product – Elmer’s Rubber Cement – could cause “serious illness, injury or death,” the agency said.

Anyone in possession of the rubber cement is urged to immediately stop using it and dispose of the product according to their local municipal waste requirements.

Elmer’s (a part of Newell Brands) said it will not be offering a replacement to affected customers because it is withdrawing the product from the Canadian market.

Health Canada explained that it tested one lot of the rubber cement and determined it was “very flammable.”

That lot’s number was E20A139R. Lot numbers can be found on each bottle’s lid.

The agency said there have been no reports of injuries or incidents involving the product in Canada.

According to Health Canada, 4,700 units of the product were imported into Canada from the USA between January and November of this year.

In a separate recall notice published by Elmer’s, the firm explained: “This product has no safety or performance issues.

“Still, it does not have the proper safety and warning labels required by Canadian authorities, so it can no longer be sold in Canada.”
