Hundreds of frozen waffle products have been recalled across Canada and the US due to the potential for listeria contamination.
TreeHouse Foods voluntarily issued the recall after “the issue” was discovered during routine testing at the manufacturing facility.
Some of the brands recalled include Western Family, Great Value, No Name and Compliments, which are sold in grocery stores in Canada.
According to a news release issued Friday, the US food and Drug Administration and Canadian Food Inspection Agency are aware of the recall.
The full list of recalled items can be found here.
“Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the recall notes.
‘Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
There have been no confirmed reports of illness, the recall says.
Anyone who bought the recalled frozen waffles is being told to toss them in the garbage or return them to the store they bought them from for a credit.
If people have questions, they can call the company at 800-596-2903, Monday – Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm (CST).
