Popular vitamins and supplements recalled amid fears they could contain metal fibres

A range of popular multivitamins and supplements has been recalled due to the presence of potentially dangerous metal fibres.

Health Canada said the products – with the brand names Kirkland Signature, Life, Option+, Webber Naturals, Wellness by London Drugs, Equate, Wellquest, VegiDay, and Natural Factors – should not be consumed.

Instead, customers should return the products to their local pharmacy for disposal.

Anyone experiencing health concerns, meanwhile, should consult a medical professional, Health Canada advised.

The agency said Factors Group of Nutritional Companies Inc. is recalling the products because they could contain metal fibres that are capable of damaging the digestive system.

“The risk of harm due to the presence of iron is higher in individuals with a peptic ulcer, regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, iron allergy, or for those taking high doses of iron supplements, levodopa, and/or levothyroxine,” Health Canada explained in a public notice.

Among the items recalled are prenatal tablets, multivitamins for men and women aged 50+ and B complex vitamins.
