More than 100,000 cans of paint thinner recalled due to toxic fluid leak

More than 100,000 tins of paint thinner have been recalled after several incidents in Canada.

The Solvable Pro Paint Cleaner and Thinner and Varsol Paint Thinner products, made by Quebec company Recochem, should not be used, Health Canada said in a public notice.

Instead, they should be disposed of according to local hazardous waste rules.

The agency explained the tins can leak fluid and lead to exposure to the toxic contents within.

That could cause serious illness or injury, Health Canada added.

The products’ child-resistant cap has also been found to “become loose or come off,” according to the notice.

Recochem told Health Canada that, as of July 19, it has had four reports of incidents from distributors. There have been no injuries, however.

The company reported that it sold 101,384 tins of the products between April and July.

Consumers in search of more information should call Recochem Inc. at 1-833-425-2377.
