Health Canada issues recall for Ritz Bits Sandwiches

A popular children’s snack has been recalled across Canada.

Health Canada has issued a nationwide recall for the cheese and pizza flavours of Christie brand Ritz Bits Sandwiches.

The recall is due to a possible Salmonella contamination and people should not consume the recalled products.

“Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” says Health Canada. “Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.”

“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”

A recall in another country triggered the recall from Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting an investigation as a result.

So far there haven’t been any reported illnesses associated with eating these products.
