Street sweeping is underway in West Kelowna and residents may experience some differences as this is the first year the District of West Kelowna is conducting the service. The District took over road maintenance services in the community in December 2012 and purchased a street sweeper last year to enable the municipality to conduct street-sweeping in-house.
The anticipated street sweeping schedule is:
Neighbourhood | Anticipated Completion |
Casa Loma | Complete |
Lakeview Heights | Complete |
Gellatly | Complete |
Westbank Centre | Complete |
Boucherie | Early April |
West Kelowna Estates | Mid April |
Rose Valley | Late April |
Shannon Lake | Early May |
Smith Creek | Mid May |
Glenrosa | Late May |
This schedule is subject to change due to the amount of material that needs to be collected and weather conditions.
In order to make street sweeping as effective as possible, residents are reminded:
- Do not place garbage, recycle or yard waste containers on the paved road surface
- Remove parked vehicles and other obstructions from the road
- Clear sidewalks adjacent to private property of debris
Residents may notice piles of collected road sand deposited in their neighbourhood. This is temporary as the sweeper services the neighborhood and the sand piles will be removed as soon as possible once sweeping is complete.
The District has augmented its street sweeping service by engaging a contractor to aid with picking up larger material expeditiously, while the District’s vacuum sweeper will be employed later to pick up the finer material.
Signage will be placed in neighbourhoods indicating when sweeping is anticipated to begin and while street sweeping is underway.
The District of West Kelowna thanks residents for their cooperation and patience during the 2013 Sweeping Program.
