In Focus | Tracie Truscott

Meet Tracie, she is originally from the Kootenays. Tracie is an artist with a multitude of styles. She isn't just a painter but dabbles in sculpture work, airbrushing paintings, and is a certified tattoo artist.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
There are a few...one, that I can "blue sky" with and discuss the abstract theory of life and people... and the other, just "is" and often not a word need be spoken.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Michaels arts and crafts! The amount of mediums that they have I can utilize in a multitude of ways!

Describe yourself in one word.
Inspired.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
The Great Barrier Reef... for the amazing scuba diving.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Wine touring!



What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I dare not say!! Hahaha.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Prior to graduation, my art teacher gave me an airbrush and compressor. She had the utmost faith in me, that I may not have had in myself at that point in time. That graduation gift inspired me to become one of the area's first motor bike airbrush artist. It then aided me when I became an aquatic replica taxidermist, and eventually into a full time tattoo artist. All the avenues it opened up were linked to that one kind gesture.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Spending every summer at Kootenay Lake... snorkelling, diving, skiing and boating!! Soooo many great memories with my family and friends.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I had been sending a portion of monies made from my art work to the Sea Turtle conservation program in Florida. After my move I will look into the area programs that are relative to wildlife and most likely offer my support within that avenue.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
The middle of any lake!



What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The climate and culturally forward attitude.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Well, I have worked through shark diving, sky diving and cave snorkelling so far! I'd like to dive the barrier reef, stay in a glass bottom cabin on the ocean, and build a house with a top glass sided studio!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I lived in the USA for 8 years working as a tattoo artist and gallery manager

Why did you get into/start this business?
My dad said if you find a way to make money doing something you love... then you will never "work" a day in your life.

What is the goal of your business?
To evolve when it has to keep new and interesting throughout the years.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Realizing that I AM AN ARTIST... I have tried dental school and other "normal" jobs, but I always return to my roots.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Different... because I like a challenge!



What do you always find yourself saying?
Life's too short.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Live in the moment, you can't change the past... and tomorrow is your second chance!

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I would pick one of the premier underwater treasure hunters! I would love to spend a day under the sea... to see what they see from history!



Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Shopping locally keeps a strong economy

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
There have been too many to list... each carrying as much impact as the last.
