Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in Vancouver; raised in the Okanagan Valley. I bought myself a townhouse here in Kelowna four years ago and haven’t looked back since.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My daughters take that spot. A constant source of inspiration, motivation and love.
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Bean scene is my favourite place for coffee. They always have local art displayed and it changes every month so always something new and fresh!
Describe yourself in one word.
Determined.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Somewhere with sunshine, beaches, fresh seafood and a swim-up bar, why not?

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Hiking; no matter what hill you climb there’s always an amazing view.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Just thinking about this question makes me blush.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
The introduction to oil paints and guidance from my paint instructor has been the most inspirational these last few years. It has invoked new freedom and awoken a dream that I’ve carried since childhood.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Growing up in a small town; where every day was make your own adventure. From catching frogs, fish, snakes and snails to riding the neighbour's ponies bareback through the woods or finding myself miles away from home with a rat pack of kids searching for the best gt hill or swimming hole. Freedom was in the air; life was good, always an adventure.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I donate to local causes whenever I can . My daughters and I found ourselves sandbagging during the 2017 floods. I would love to work alongside a charity; perhaps by doing a custom painting That could be auctioned off.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would renew everyone’s levels of faith, hope and love. With these three things, I think a lot of the problems we currently face globally, would cease to exist.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Mission creek, Knox mountain, the bird sanctuary; any of the beaches or parks are great places to pause and reflect.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Perhaps a bypass to ease the congestion Kelowna is known for in the summer months. I know I’m dreaming but does anyone blame me?
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Kelowna lacks in nothing; it’s an adventurers paradise with its beautiful beaches, mountains, sunshine and waterfalls. A bounty of wineries, orchards, golf courses, ski hills And more. With an international airport and a vast array of shops and eateries.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Do a solo show in a prominent space or gallery.
Go on a vacation somewhere exotic with my daughters.
Win the lotto.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a diploma in applied psychology and counselling.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
You can find my work on Instagram @raelenebrickwoodartist. You can also contact me via FB, email, phone or text.
What is the name of your business/organization?
As a painter, my name is what I use to represent myself and my work...Raelene Brickwood Artist.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I want to show my girls that dreams really do come true if you try.
What is the goal of your business?
To turn a passion into a profit. The ultimate goal is to be able to do what I love; turning people’s visions into reality, making a living at it while I do.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Balance. When I get into a painting everything else falls by the wayside; the painting comes together the house falls apart.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I’m grateful for what I have in this life; the blessings are countless. But yes I would change a few things up. Hindsight is always 20/20.
What do you always find yourself saying?
"I’m not sure you can put that into press." I spent a fair amount of time with my grandfather in his shop as a kid, you learn a few roll off the tongue words that way.
Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Actions speak louder than words.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jim Carrey. He’s Canadian; beyond funny; and a painter. I imagine a day filled with hilarity and shenanigans beyond compare.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
I like to shop locally because it supports our community. It's one way of giving back.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
It would have to be raising two beautiful, fun-loving little girls. Watching them grow up brings pride anew each day.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
