Meet Lisa. She has lived in Kelowna for almost 10 years. You could say she is a dog person; she volunteers at Paws it Forward and also owns of Pawzitively Purrfect Petsitting.
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
Grand Forks and I have lived in Kelowna for almost 10 years.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My three and a half year old niece Lyla. She always brightens up my day with the simple things in life. Nothing is complicated with her, it’s just fun!
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Can I say a restaurant? I love food [😝] . I live in the Westside and I absolutely LOVE the Cherry Pit. Great food, awesome service, homelike atmosphere. Oh and for an actual store I would go with Sunshine Pets. They are so great and always knowledgeable!
Describe yourself in one word.
Adventurous!
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Anywhere hot! I’m due for a nice beachside vacation [☀] ️
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Definitely wine tasting! I love myself some Okanagan wines, the wineries are all so gorgeous and I love learning about the wines and the winemaking process.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Honestly, I do embarrassing things everyday. I couldn’t even pick just one. I’ve learned to just laugh them off now.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I can’t think of one specific thing. I think my inspiration comes from the support and enthusiasm I get from my friends and family. When I’m doing something and someone says, "Hey, you’re doing a great job," I think is what inspires me the most to keep going and keep doing what I’m doing.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Too many memories to count spending time with my two sisters and cousins. We were always having fun and doing cool activities and when I think back on my childhood I think of all this fun times just being kids.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I work with a local dog rescue Paws It Forward. They are a great non profit organization, that is entirely run on volunteers. If you are looking for somewhere to volunteer they are always looking for extra hands and people to foster dogs! You can find them on Facebook or at pawsitforward.org.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I wish that I could rescue ALL the dogs that need it and find loving homes for all of them.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I enjoy camping and hiking, and there are a lot of awesome spots for that in Kelowna, that take you away from the city for a little while.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would like to see more pet friendly home rentals! It’s very challenging to find rentals that allow pets these days, and though I understand the risks home owners can be taking in allowing pets I think there can be a better happy medium.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Where else can you live with a beautiful lake, great wineries, awesome golf, and amazing skiing and snowboarding so close to home?!
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
I really only have one big thing on my bucket list, and it is to visit all 30 MLB stadiums. I am a huge baseball fan and so far I have crossed 10 off the list, so I have 20 more to go. Visiting all those cities in itself is a dream.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I collect flamingo items. Love flamingos.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook and on Instagram
What is the name of your business/organization?
Pawzitively Purrfect Petsitting.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I've always loved dogs and working with the rescue, and when my family needed an in home pet sitter it was difficult to find so I thought, "Hey I could do this!"
What is the goal of your business?
To take care of all the animals as if they were my own, and keep them on their regular schedules while their owners are away.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Thinking back I see lots of things that I would have done differently, but ultimately my choices led.
