Straight From DeHart - Nov. 20, 2024

After a catastrophic flood and being closed for 10 months, Covid, both supply chain and staff challenges, the iconic Gasthaus On The Lake in Peachland at 5790 Beach Avenue is celebrating a huge milestone of 25 years in business. Did you know that over 1,000,000 (yes million) items were removed from the restaurant for abatement right down to the studs after the flood? It’s absolutely amazing that the restaurant and building is back to its original state. To celebrate, Executive Chef Jared Reimer, who has been with the Gasthaus for 12 years, has created a new menu. Managed by Jakob Parsons for the past five years, the menu has a good variety of soups, starters, salads, burgers, sandwiches and pizza. Of course, they offer a large variety of German fare including Schnitzel, Bratwurst and Spätzle. Gasthaus events include Thursday Night all-you-can-eat Schnitzel Buffet and Friday Night Prime Rib three-course dinner with sticky toffee pudding. The Gasthaus Medieval Feast is famous and includes all-you-can-eat Medieval Feast dinner for groups of 10 or more. We tried samples of many of the new items including Spinach Bacon Mushroom Salad, Salmon Wellington, Sauerbraten and Hunter Schnitzel. We were way too full to try dessert, and we even took a package home. Gasthaus has many long-time staff, including Twila Almond, 20 years; Julie Heimlicher, 15 years and Michelle Reimer (Chef’s Wife), 14 years. Jamie Morgan is the Marketing Manager. Now, also wanting to give back to the community, from November 20th to December 31st, anyone who drops off a donation of non-perishable items to designated drop-off areas for the Food Banks of the Okanagan will receive a voucher that can be redeemed for 20% off your entire bill at the Gasthaus from January 1st to February 28th, 2025. The drop-off locations are Gasthaus on the Lake (Peachland); Summerland Food Bank, 13204 Henry Ave. (Summerland); Manchester Signs Printing & Graphics, #5-1718 Byland Road (West Kelowna) and Kelowna Rockets Hockey Club Head Office/Team Store on Water Street (Kelowna). Gasthaus believe that by partnering it will boost donations over the very demanding holiday season. www.gasthaus.ca
