The new Keg Steakhouse and Bar has opened at 1825 Underhill Street on the corner of Highway 97 and Underhill (across from Skogies). The restaurant has 300 seats inside and a huge wrap-around patio with about 100 more seats with lots of parking. The décor is spectacular with rich dark brown tones, coloured accents, modern lighting and many spectacular pieces of art. There is both a bar and dining room area. The restaurant franchisees are Sam Brovender and Rob Haberman with the management team of Tyson Ralph (general manager), Nick Riise (bar manager), Joel Kruse (dining room manager) and Chris Collins (kitchen manager). New to this Keg are wines on tap, blended exclusively for The Keg from Sandhill, Inniskillin, Calliope and Maverick. Also newly added to their menu are fish and chicken full plate entrees. We tried the new Sesame Tuna and of course, their famous Prime Rib, which were fabulous. The Billy Miner Pie is a staple for dessert. The menu is large and extensive, with lots to choose from. October 31st. Coinciding with Donna’s retirement, the company will now be discontinuing the sale of bras, intimate and mastectomy apparel. Donna is now selling all their well-known brands of regular and mastectomy bras priced two-for-one and all other apparel, including some swim wear which is also being cleared at half-price. Ryan has just finished a huge upgrade to his software to accommodate the revolutionary google glasses, which is the cutting edge in personal training. The new executive of the Orchard Valley Quilters’ Guild for 2014/15 is Bonnie Rankin (president), Dianne Kapty (vice-president), Marie Genereux (secretary), Margo Ross (treasurer) and Marian Grimwood (past-president). For the 12 months ending August 31st, the Guild and its members donated 300 quilts to various groups including KGH preemies, Cancer Centre, Cancer Lodge, Hospice, RCMP, Rotoplast and Kelowna food Bank. I hear that they are really looking forward to being involved with the drive-thru for the first time. Princess Auto will be putting some really great safety glasses in some of the bags and both Laura and Melanie Lyne will have some goodies for the ladies. Not sure if you have seen the poster and advertising for the event, Colleen Brown of Westkey Graphics did a tremendous job. Ash Burnell of Sun Valley Window Cleaners will be donating some window cleaning – who could not use that? Creative Mortgage has come on board with some gift certificates, and keep your eyes open for the wonderful clip of the Drive-Thru that Shaw TV did last week which will be aired soon.
Remember, we now have a walk-up line in front of the hotel in front of Perkins and there are also going to be some pretty Skookum bags for kids this year. Rena Krell at MacDonald’s dropped off a whole whack of neat kid’s stuff and gift certificates for the kid’s bags. Remember to come into the Ramada off Enterprise Way and the fun begins. The legal beagles will be washing your windows again, with the help of Westside Warriors. You will be seeing me in my pajamas going from one end of the hotel to the other in Erwin Egert’s Carts Plus Golf Cart that he generously donates to us every year. Rider Cider is organizing a unique ride through East Kelowna to raise money and awareness for autism on Sunday, October 5. The event finishes at the Bottega in east Kelowna and encourages riders of all levels to plan their routes and visit as many wineries within the allotted time. There will also be fun “Amazing Race” type challenges along the way that will provide participants with time deduction bonuses.
