In case fall has crept up on you, it’s pretty much Halloween. If you don’t have a costume, don’t fear, here at KelownaNow, we’ve done all the hard work for you.

In an attempt to help our readers, we took a trip to the new Value Village in West Kelowna, which just opened last month, to see how easy it is to put together a unique costume.

According to manager Kathleen Taylor, if you’re looking for something one-of-a-kind, thrifting is pretty much the best way.

“We have a selection of new clothes, we have a large section of used items that you can mix and match, you can go completely with a brand new costume or you can choose to pick a few accessories from the new and match that to a costume,” she explained. “You can spend under $10 to purchase a costume or you can really go as crazy as you want.”

Taylor said some people come in and have no idea what they want to be, they just know they want to be something great. In that case, they can enlist the help of costume consultants like Sue Skinner who walk the floor, looking for the best costumes to put together.

“There was a man who found a hat, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to be and then he ended up grabbing a suit and being a businessman,” she said. “I tried to talk him into being Donald (Trump) but he just wanted to be a billionaire.”

"Skinner said most of the kids gravitate towards being super heroes, or real life heroes (like police officers and firefighters), but when it comes to most older people, it depends.

“We just try and make it complete for them so they walk out happy and where they’re not feeling like they had to spend a lot of money,” she said.
