RCMP cruisers damaged trying to stop stolen vehicle in Lake Country

A pair of RCMP vehicles were damaged and the suspect is still on the loose after officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle in Lake Country.

The green Pontiac, which was stolen from the Vernon area, was spotted by a Lake Country RCMP officer around 7 pm on Sunday.

The officer tried to conduct a traffic vehicle, but the Pontiac, which was speeding along Hwy 97, didn’t comply and turned onto Pollard Road.

According to the RCMP, a pair of marked RCMP vehicles tried to block the stolen vehicle from leaving the dead-end roadway, but the suspect rammed both cruisers and fled the scene.

“Due to the dangerous nature of the suspects driving, the vehicle was not further pursued by police,” said a statement from the RCMP.

A short time after the original incident, police found the stolen vehicle abandoned in a field on Pollard Road.

The police dog unit was brought in an attempt to track down the driver, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

“Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident,” said Sgt. Jon Collins.

“This driver recklessly put our officers, the public and themselves in danger and we are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.
